Damn I hate the word 'Journal'. It reeks of self-concern and self-love. Not that Im against that. I prefer to say Computer Entry, or something like that. I'm actually starting to like it here. After coming into the kitchens, so full of dust, a little water damage, and a 'barnacle'! how the hell did that get in here! stuck to the oven door, it is a welcome home to see the kitchens so clean and operational. We were able to bring cookers along, lined up in their stainless steel uniformity against one wall. The storage for food the Ancients have is FANTASTIC! All temperature controlled. Manifestation lists have let me know we have enough food to last one year. That is three cooked meals per day. I am rationing coffee, tea and chocolate. With only one cooked meal per day, leftovers or simple food for lunch, and a cold breakfast, consisting of cereal and toast, I should be able to stretch the food resources for another six months at least. Good comments about the first cooked meal have been coming in. Pizza seems to be a big hit.
The Marines have found land on the planet. I'm going to try and arrange to get more information about it, see if we can start planting crops. See what type of game there is.
Looks like we are here to stay, no way home.
The least I can do is assure their comfort in food.

NOTE: Fried Rice is a great way to use left overs and stretch other foods in the meal which may be too minimal for some people. Fried Rice can also be adjusted for those with food allergies. 1 cup rice 2 tbs oil 2 eggs, beaten 2 rashers bacon, chopped (Canadian Bacon, not stringy bacon) 1 onion, chopped 1 clove garlic, crushed 1/2 cup bean shoots 1 tbs soy sauce 2 spring onions, chopped 1 cup cooked meat 1. Cook rice in boiling water and 1/4 tsp salt for 12 minutes. Drain, rinse and cool. 2. Heat 1 tsp oil in frying pan. Fry egg until set. 3. Lift egg and cut into small pieces. 4. Add remaining oil and fry bacon, add onion, garlic and bean shoots, and fry until onion is transparent. 5. Add ric, meat, soy sauce and egg pieces. Stir gently. Cook 1 minute 6. Garnish with spring onions and serve. Tags: recipe

Having been on Atlantis for four days now, studying the eating habits of the residents, I've decided to put up a recipe base, where my kitchen staff can read up on instructions before preparing meals.
It looks like it will do everyone the world of good to have a hot meal every day. I will be glad to cook for them.
I've gone through the stores, and it seems as though we have enough food for at least a year, with one hot meal per day, a cold breakfast, and cold lunch aswell.
The SGC didn't let us bring any fresh fruit or vegetables, unknown bacteria would be a bad thing in another galaxy that may have never seen this type of food before, they said.
We have though, many, many tinned foodstuffs, ranging from peaches and apricots, to tuna, salmon, canned beef and even asparagus!
I've had a few requests for meals so far. I will have to make up a roster of what meals will be cooked when, keep a tight reign on all food, and request trade missions from Dr Weir.
On a personal note, Atlantis is amazing...fully surrounded by water...such a big city. We haven't even explored a tenth of it I would imagine.
Regards
Ian
